Below is important information on Carthage’s COVID-19 testing protocols for those members of our community who are not fully vaccinated. As a reminder, all Carthage students, faculty, and staff are required to be fully vaccinated by Sept. 15 or have an exemption on file. Submit your vaccination status form

How often will unvaccinated students be tested?
All unvaccinated students will be required to participate in COVID-19 testing at least once per week. Unvaccinated student-athletes will be required to participate in more frequent testing, as much as three times per week. Student-athlete testing has already begun with preseason activities for fall sports.

When and where will testing take place?
Student-athlete testing has already begun with preseason activities for fall sports. Full campus population testing will begin on Monday, Sept. 20.

Carthage’s COVID-19 testing will be held from 8 a.m. to noon every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Potente Chapel, located next to Oaks Building 6. See campus map

How do students register for testing?
All unvaccinated individuals will be expected to download the NAVICA App to their phones and register prior to their first week of testing. This will reduce the amount of time upon entry for your first test.

If you do not have a device that accepts apps, you will have to go to testing and participate in a more manual registration/notification process.

How do individuals use the testing app?
Carthage will be uploading a list of all students and employees into the NAVICA App. Student-athletes will be added first, as they begin testing sooner. All members of our community will then receive directions by email on how to download the app to their phones. Unvaccinated individuals will be expected to do this prior to their first week of testing. All others will be asked to add the NAVICA App to their phones in case we end up using the Antigen test for symptomatic testing as well.

What will the testing process be like?
Carthage will be using the Abbott Labs Binax Antigen Test for all testing. The testing process will be supervised by outsourced medical staff from Accelerated Labs.

Upon arriving at the Potente Chapel for testing, individuals will be instructed on how to administer the nasal swab test and place it in the testing solution. Individuals will then leave the Potente Chapel. Once results have been verified, individuals will receive a notification through the NAVICA App with their results.

If a student tests positive, they should anticipate receiving communication from the Dean of Students Office later that day about the next steps. Students are also welcome to reach out to the Dean of Students Office upon receipt of their results as well by emailing kgoldsberry@carthage.edu or nwinkler@carthage.edu, or calling 262-551-5800.

How is Carthage ensuring compliance with testing protocols?
Staff will be recording participation in testing by unvaccinated students. Unvaccinated students who fail to comply with the weekly testing requirement can face fines and conduct charges. Unvaccinated student-athletes who fail to comply with their testing requirements will lose eligibility for practice and playing time that week and be subject to fines and conduct charges.
