Stay cautious: Hacking attempts using AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now enabling cybercriminals to employ more complex and evolving scams than ever before. Our cyber consultancy has highlighted these examples to watch out for:
Voice cloning (audio deepfakes) now poses an everyday threat. While most people are wise to an unexpected chat message from a “relative” who desperately needs money, AI is now able to generate realistic audio messages. In some cases, a seconds-long sample can be enough for AI to replicate someone’s voice.
AI now is being used to create compelling “look-alike” applications, making you think you are working with your banking or social media account, when in fact it’s a fake application being used to steal your personal information. AI-enabled custom phishing kits allow spear phishing (targets specific individuals) with new levels of sophistication and finish. The days where phishing was easily defeated due to poorly drafted or translated messages are over.
AI allows more and better spam emails to be sent and potentially get past mailbox filters, and vastly more data to be leveraged for social engineering. Remember to change passwords immediately if you expect a compromise. Stay safe online!
