WSGC Student Spotlight: Megan Kocher

March 02, 2020

Megan Kocher
Junior
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Major: Electrical Engineering

Congratulations to this week’s #WSGCStudentSpotlight, Megan Kocher! Megan is currently studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In previous years, Megan has been a competitor in the Midwest and Collegiate Rocket Launch competitions. This year, Megan is the recipient of a Women in Aviation Scholarship award.

As the youngest in a family of engineers, Megan naturally gravitated toward the field of engineering as she grew older. Her mother, a Marine, was a big inspiration and motivation, pushing Megan to forge her own path. Now that Megan is in college, she continues pushing on. In her first few years, she joined the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Panther Rocketry team for the Collegiate and Midwest Rocket Launch competitions. Recently, Megan’s been conducting NASA-funded research under her school’s faculty, studying telerobotics and potential rovers for the surface of Mars. It was through this research that Megan discovered her passion for mechatronics, which uses mechanical, electrical, and software engineering.

In the future, Megan wants to acquire her pilot’s license and pursue a graduate program so she can get her master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering. Afterward, she hopes to work for an aerospace company, like NASA or SpaceX. Beyond that, Megan hopes to become an engineer who builds and creates, struggles and succeeds, and learns and teaches.

Congratulations Megan, and best of luck to you in your future!
