Mia Vilanova ‘21 Earns Position at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts

Mia Vilanova ’21 earned a position as Community Engagement Coordinator for the Thelma Center for the Arts. She will be working to build a large and varied membership for the non-profit, ranging from individual art lovers to supportive local businesses. Whether it is creating online engagement through Thelma’s mailing list or providing personal service at its welcome desk, Mia will help develop an arts loving community in the Fond du Lac area.

With a degree in Public Relations, Mia’s academic and professional experiences at Carthage prepared her well for positions in her professional career. While working for the Office of Visual and Performing Arts, Mia managed the student leads and managers, ensured clean communication among the staff, trained students to effectively aid community members as house managers, was the box office interim manager, and served on events staff. This past year, she played a key role in implementing a new ticketing system. Due to the pandemic, the former ticketing system discontinued, therefore she assisted with onboarding a new system for the Fine Arts Department, but also for athletics and commencement.

“Mia is a great example of the best of what Carthage has to offer,” said Tianna Conway, Director of Arts Events and Audience Engagement, “She fulfilled every role she was assigned and actively sought new opportunities to build Carthage’s arts engagement. She has vastly exceeded all of my expectations, and sets the highest standards of what student employees can do at Carthage.”

Mia is excited to use the skills she has built at Carthage to connect with a whole new community through the arts. “With this new job I am moving to a city I have only visited once, so it will be fun finding ways to engage with a community that I am unfamiliar with,” said Mia, “I am excited to see what I can bring to the table that will increase their membership.”
