Megan Janiak
Senior
Carthage College
Major: Physics
Minor: Chemistry

Congratulations to this week’s #WSGCStudentSpotlight, Megan Janiak! Megan is going into her senior year at Carthage College with a major in physics and a minor in chemistry. Megan is a NASA internship recipient and the two-time recipient of an Undergraduate Research Fellowship.

Over the summer, Megan’s NASA Internship gave her the opportunity to work with the Boeing Design Visualizations team, using 3D-Computer Aided Design (CAD) to develop and maintain mechanical and structural engineering product definitions. Megan also assisted in reverse engineering and creating models through the use of 3D laser scanning equipment. Using the model and scan data, Megan developed operational processes for processing the Space Launch System (SLS) vehicle through multiple facilities at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

In her time at Carthage, Megan has become a member of the Microgravity Team, Lake Michigan Launchers, the Chemistry Club, as well as acting as the co-president of Carthage’s chapter of the Society of Physics Students, and the treasurer of Carthage’s music fraternity, Lambda Kappa. She has worked on the Modal Propellant Gauging (MPG) team, developing and testing a fuel gauging system for use in microgravity environments like the International Space Station, testing payloads on NASA’s reduced-gravity aircraft. When she’s not in the lab, Megan enjoys playing the viola in the Carthage Philharmonic.

Congratulations Megan, and best of luck in your future!
