Claire Murray
Graduate Student
University of Wisconsin - Madison
Major: Astronomy
Minor: Physics

Claire Murray is this week’s #WSGCStudentSpotlight! She is currently a Ph.D. candidate for Astronomy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned her M.S. in Astronomy and minor in Physics from UW-Madison, and her B.A. in Physics from Carleton College. This week’s awardee is a recipient of the 2016 Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium Graduate & Professional Research Fellowship.

Claire is conducting research on a project - Deciphering the interstellar medium with 21-SPONGE and artificial intelligence. With the use of deep radio observations and machine learning techniques, she plans to probe the structure of neutral hydrogen in the interstellar medium, which is crucial to the star formation cycle of galaxies. Claire also volunteers at Washburn Observatory conducting public observing sessions. In addition, she recorded answers to questions about astronomy for Blue Sky Science.

Congratulations Claire! Keep up the good work!
