Spaceport Sheboygan Celebrates Grand Opening

October 22, 2014

Spaceport Sheboygan celebrates the grand opening of their new facility which overlooks the Lake Michigan shoreline. The space museum houses interactive exhibits and hosts educational programming for school and community groups. Their goal is to inspire young people to explore science, technology, engineering, and math.

As part of the permanent displays, Spaceport Sheboygan showcases a 1993 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Space Design and Model funded by Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium.  Executive Director, Daniel Bateman, encourages affiliate members to utilize this venue as a resource to highlight student projects funded by WSGC.

To conclude the celebratory occasion, four-time Space Shuttle Astronaut, Mark Lee, inspired the crowd with gratitude for his Wisconsin roots. Lee is one of eight Wisconsin astronauts.  He attributes his career choice to the teachers who encouraged him to explore the meaning of gravity, read, and look to the future of space exploration.
