See the ‘Milestones’ Soviet-era art exhibition now through Jan. 29
Members of the Carthage community are invited to view “Milestones,” the first exhibition in a rotating series of the College’s Sam and Berry Shoen Collection of Soviet Art, Tuesday, Jan. 17 through Sunday, Jan. 29, in the H. F. Johnson Gallery of Art.
Sam and Berry Shoen, longtime supporters of the arts, donated the largest portion of the new collection of oil paintings and drawings from Armenia, Byelorussia, Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. In total, Carthage received 131 pieces worth $3.8 million.
Guest curator Masha Zavialova from the Russian Museum of Art in Minneapolis will be at Carthage to offer insight into the “Milestones” exhibition during a talk at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the H. F. Johnson Recital Hall. A reception will follow from 4 to 6 p.m., in the gallery.
This event is part of Carthage’s Art Symposium: “Beauty In Expression,” which includes film, music, and visual art.
