2023 Peer Coach Application QR Code The Center for Student Success is looking for students to become peer coaches.

Peer coaches are volunteer student-leaders assigned to a section of the College Success Seminar for first-year students. They work closely with a faculty/staff instructor to assist new students with the academic and social transition to college, and help them engage in the Carthage community. Peer coaches help facilitate the classroom experience for students and serve as an extra resource during students’ transition to campus.

Final applications are due Friday, March 24.

  • Create networking and mentorship relationships with a Carthage faculty/staff member(s)
  • Get to know new students and other peer coaches
  • Peer coaches are eligible to be peer coach leaders after one semester of experience as a peer coach

Responsibilities:

  • Communicating with paired faculty/staff course instructors
  • Work with faculty/staff course instructors to determine role in the course
  • Attend the assigned section (sections assigned based on your class/work schedule)
  • Attend training in spring (Friday, April 28) and fall (Tuesday, Aug. 29)
  • Maintain communication and engage with peer coach leaders
  • Complete peer coach program assessments (provide feedback on your experience)

Qualifications:

  • Full-time undergraduate students with a 2.25 minimum cumulative GPA
  • Students with good standing and student conduct who represent the diversity of the Carthage community
  • All current undergraduate students are welcome to apply. If you do not meet these minimum requirements but still want to be considered, please contact Kelly Smith, assistant dean for student success and wellness, at ksmith17@carthage.edu.

Applications will be reviewed by the Center for Student Success staff and peer coach leaders. Finalists will be invited for an in-person interview.
