Prof. Angela Dassow begins new research project with wolves in Yellowstone National Park
In collaboration with wolf biologists in Yellowstone National Park, Professor Angela Dassow and her research team, including Carthage alumna and researcher at UW-Madison Lexi Menendez ’23, began a multi-year partnership to understand vocal signatures of packs.
Wolf packs in the park are among the best studied populations in the world, yet there have been relatively few vocal behavior studies conducted in this area.
Over a two week period in January, the team collected over 7,000 hours of audio as part of their fully funded project and captured several visual observations of wolf vocal activity and intraspecific competition between rival packs. These visual observations will be used with their associated vocal interactions to understand intraspecific competition and dispersal behavior of wolves.
