Biography

As the Senior Director of Marketing and Brand Strategy at Carthage, Steve Janiak oversees our Design and Creative Team. He develops and leads our advertising, and works to ensure a consistent look, tone, and message in all Carthage materials, from recruitment marketing to on-campus signage. His primary focus is to support the enrollment and admissions cycle, in addition to fundraising and revenue-generating initiatives.

Previously the Director of Creative Services at Carthage, Steve has long guided the look and feel of the Carthage brand. He came to Carthage in 1998 from a magazine publisher in Libertyville, Illinois, where he spent four years designing monthly and bimonthly magazines for several computer component fields.

At Carthage, Steve oversaw the successful rebranding of the College in 2014 and of Carthage Athletics in both 2006 and 2017. Under Steve’s leadership, the design and creative team produces hundreds of projects each year including all materials for recruitment, advancement, Giving Day, Commencement, New Student Orientation, The Carthaginian magazine, and much more.

The team has been recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for Best Viewbook, Excellence in Print Advertising, and Excellence in Brochure Design. They have received honors from the Collegiate Advertising Awards, EDU Digital Marketing Awards, Educational Advertising Awards, and CoSIDA.

Steve also enjoys photography, and has taken thousands of photos for Carthage events, marketing materials, and of the beautiful campus.

He has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Favorite thing about working at Carthage

“In my time at Carthage, I’ve realized the great value of a liberal arts education. Seeing and hearing first-hand about the many positive, life-changing experiences that students go through here is inspiring. It makes me feel like I’m a part of something greater, not just trying to sell a product or service I don’t believe in. It’s great motivation.”
