Allen Kuzilwa serves as the education and culture attache for the High Commission of the United Republic of Tanzania. In addition to the normal operations of a consulate, the High Commission’s goal is to promote and enhance relations between the people and governments of the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the country of Tanzania. The High Commission is currently seeking new and innovative ways to engage Tanzanian ex-patriates in the United Kingdom and Ireland, believing that they have a positive role in the development of their mother country.

“Part of a diplomat’s daily task is to report to capitals on new developments that affect our nations’ bilateral and international relations. The liberal arts education I received at Carthage equipped me with tools to look deeper into some of these developments, and produce analytical reports that enable government leaders to make informed and better decisions.”

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“I have enjoyed the experience of witnessing first-hand the diplomatic work shaping good bilateral relations between Tanzania and the United Kingdom and Ireland.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“Whenever I reflect on this question, I remember the motto ‘World of Ideas.’ It has helped me always to think beyond the norms and in-depth when dealing with various issues related to the work of diplomacy.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“Part of a diplomat’s daily task is to report to capitals on new developments that affect our nations’ bilateral and international relations. The liberal arts education I received at Carthage equipped me with tools to look deeper into some of these developments, and produce analytical reports that enable government leaders to make informed and better decisions.”

What's your favorite Carthage memory?

“One of my favorite Carthage memories was participating in the Carthage College Gospel Messengers Choir. The experience secured my faith in Christianity and has continued to guide and shape me as I strive daily to be a better human being.”

Tips for current Carthage students?

“The best resource Carthage offered, from my experience, was the academic and supporting staff occupying the College offices. I wish for each student who enrolls with Carthage to make excellence their goal by drawing from the knowledge, expertise, and experience of those staff members.”
