What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“I’ve worked for Satori Energy for my whole career, and what I’ve enjoyed most about it is the small size of the organization. This enables me to wear a lot of hats, contribute in impactful ways, and gain exposure to a lot of different products, services, and technologies simultaneously.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“I’ve had a diverse career within Satori Energy, and I feel that Carthage’s liberal arts curriculum positioned me to have a very broad skill set that is useful in many different areas.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“One of the most impactful experiences I had at Carthage was working on my senior thesis. I used econometrics and linear regressions to analyze attendance at NFL games. Fast forward to earlier in my career with Satori Energy, I identified an opportunity to increase the organization’s knowledge of a particular cost component that is embedded in electric supply rates. I used the skills gained from the research I had to do for my thesis to conduct research on this cost component, and then I educated others internally on it and worked with marketing to put together client collateral explaining this cost. It is now a core piece of almost every deliverable we put in front of clients.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“I felt at home from the moment I first stepped foot on campus as a freshman in high school. My first impressions were correct; I ended up living on campus all four years and even stayed two summers. It truly became a home.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“Satori Energy was, until very recently, owned by a Carthage graduate and trustee. One organization I was involved with at Carthage was Student Government; I served as treasurer for two years. In this role, one of my responsibilities was to serve as a student representative to the Board of Trustees, and it was there that I met my current boss. I would not be where I’m at today professionally without Carthage.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“Professor Ronald Cronovich was the most impactful professor I had at Carthage; I took around seven courses with him over my four years. Prof. Cronovich was kind enough to write a letter of recommendation for me when I sought to get my MBA.”

Were you an award recipient? If so, tell us about the awards you received and what they meant to you.

“Yes, I received many awards such as the Wisconsin Academic Excellence Scholarship, State Leadership Scholarship, Highest Honors Scholarship, Dwight W. Byram Scholarship, Edna and Ernest Newhouse Scholarship, Alan J. Ruud and Susan B. Stover Scholarship, George and Valborg Crossland Scholarship, John R. Commons Award in Economics, and the Dean’s List.”

What role have the values in Carthage's mission, "Seeking Truth, Building Strength, Inspiring Service — Together" played in your life?

“Seeking Truth — to me this means never taking something at the surface, but always digging in and fully understanding the truth. This applies at work when doing research, proofing something, or when digesting the news.

“Building Strength — to me this means always trying to improve yourself day in and day out.

“Inspiring Service — to me this means giving back wherever and whenever you can.

“Together — life is best when lived with others! I have held these values closely throughout my career and continue to try to live by them every day.”
