“Take a foreign language! Study abroad! The world is big; you don’t want to miss out!”

Participating in foreign language courses, working with professors, and taking advantage of Carthage programs such as study abroad helped Kaitlin Theobald ’15 become comfortable with other cultures from all over the world.

She uses the skills she learned during college at her current job as a Western culture ambassador at Shang Xia – Hermès Group, where she assists foreign customers in understanding the Chinese handcrafts luxury brand; and assists in translations and interpreting Mandarin, Spanish, and French.

“Carthage helped with my foreign language skills. Studying abroad helped me learn how to adapt on my own in a foreign land. The wide range of courses and professors were essential in teaching me to deal with different types of people and situations.”

Kaitlin Theobald, ’15

What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“I enjoy connecting with people from all over the world. I’m proud to be learning something new every single day, both in regards to the Chinese culture and international community.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“Carthage helped with my foreign language skills. Studying abroad helped me learn how to adapt on my own in a foreign land. The wide range of courses and professors were essential in teaching me to deal with different types of people and situations.”

How has your liberal arts education benefitted you?

“I think the benefit of a smaller community like Carthage is that I never felt overwhelmed or felt like just another number. The small class sizes allowed me to have a voice, and I value that. It gave me confidence in how I express myself today.”
