What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“The connections I’ve been building have made this line of work so worthwhile. Although I recently started this new position, I have made so many meaningful connections in the community and am excited to see them grow.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“Carthage helped prepare me for my career in so many ways that I am thankful for. The Social Work Department prepared me to be an asset to the community and encouraged me to focus on my strengths so I could better help those that I serve.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“Because of Carthage, I was able to travel abroad for two J-Terms. In 2015 I went to Guatemala as a freshman, and as a junior, I went to Costa Rica. During my J-Term trip to Costa Rica, I connected deeply with the local CEO of the biological field station we stayed at, and I had the opportunity to complete a three-month internship in Costa Rica later that year. These are experiences that I hold dear to my heart and they could not have happened without Carthage.”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“I am deeply thankful for all the professors in the Social Work Department. Each and every one of them have played a crucial role in both my career and personal development.”

Professor Rebecca Hornung provided me with amazing insight and depth into the work and impact of social work. Her experience and knowledge inspired me in many ways and I am forever grateful to her. Professor Debbie Minsky-Kelly pushed me out of my comfort zone and I actually work closely with her now in my new role. Being able to stay connected with her after my undergraduate career is such a treat!”

“I am also incredibly thankful for Professor Dani Geary and Professor Tian Tian for their dedication to not only social work but the success and well-being of their students. I would not be where I am if it were not for the meaningful relationships I have made with my professors at Carthage.”

Were you an award recipient? If so, tell us about the awards you received and what they meant to you.

“I was awarded the Presidential Dahl Scholarship.”
