“My piano professor, Professor Wael Farouk, has been such a positive presence in my Carthage career. He really worked hard at helping me transition to college life as a freshman, and he is always available to talk if I need help of any kind.”

“So far, my favorite class has been History of Christian Thought with Professor Michele Eich, adjunct faculty of religion. I didn’t think I would like that class too much, but Prof. Eich is such a knowledgeable person, and she taught the class in such an interesting and factual way!”

“I am the president of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter at Carthage. PRSSA is part of a national organization, so being a member and leader of the club offers so many networking and career-building opportunities.

“I am also part of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and Martial Arts clubs on campus. They keep me busy, but they are super fun, and I’ve met my closest friends at Carthage through clubs.”

“The toughest class I’ve taken has been American Foreign Policy with Professor Arthur Cyr. It was difficult because the students and professor were incredibly knowledgeable about events taking place all over the world. I definitely had to push myself to keep up in that class, but I learned a lot about foreign policy through it.”

“I have an on-campus job in the Office of Marketing and Communications as a news writer. I’ve worked in the Office since freshman year, and it has helped prepare me for a career in public relations in so many ways. Not only do I get writing experience, but I get to learn about internal communication and web editing — all things that are important in a public relations career.

“I completed a summer internship as an Alumni Events Intern in the Office of Institutional Advancement at Carthage. This internship was perfect for me since I want to be an event planner someday, and I am so grateful to my career specialist, Carolyn Serdar, in The Aspire Program for helping me find this internship.

“I was also able to attend a J-Term Study Tour to Tanzania which is a time I will never forget. This was one of the most impactful experiences of my college career.”

“I was awarded a Piano Music Scholarship. Not only does this scholarship lessen the financial burden of college, but it allows me to continue studying piano during my studies at Carthage.”

“My favorite Carthage memory is with my frisbee team. We played a game of frisbee right by the lake, and we accidentally threw the disc into the lake. We had to swim a little to get it back, but we eventually did!”

“My favorite spot on campus is the Fritsch Meditation Chapel. It’s a little chapel that is really peaceful and such a good place to read or just be by yourself.”

“I was surprised at how smooth the transition from high school to college was! I feel very supported at Carthage, and I know that if I have a question of any sort, there are people all around to help me.”

“My 8-year-old self would be surprised! When I was eight, I wanted to be a professional ballerina. Even though I decided that wasn’t the right career for me, I’m very grateful that I can keep ballet in my life by doing dance at Carthage.”

“Public relations is a very underrated major in my opinion, and it is one of the most practical fields a student can go into. It opens the door to many different career options, and it’s a people-focused career path which is great for a people-person like myself.”

“I actually chose Carthage because of its dance program. I have done ballet since I was four, and I really wanted to continue that in college.”
