Phil Welsh
Biography
Phil Welsh joined Carthage in August 2021 as a new student registration specialist, a role designed to support first-time freshmen with their academic registration and course planning. In addition to his work in the Ruth Johnson Office of the Registrar, Phil serves on Moon Shot for Equity’s Academic Maps Team and is an assistant coach for Carthage women’s basketball.
Prior to arriving at Carthage, Phil spent three years at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, as a senior admission representative in the Office of Admission, where he supervised the campus tour guide program. He also volunteered as a student success instructor who co-taught first-year college transition courses and served on the Cornell women’s basketball coaching staff.
Phil resides with his partner, Alison, and their two cats, Daniel and Inigo, in his hometown Racine, Wisconsin.

Main responsibilities at Carthage
- Pre-register first-time freshmen (last name A-K) for fall and spring courses, offering assistance in adjusting schedules as needed.
- Advocate for all Carthage students when challenges arise, gladly willing to listen and connect to appropriate resources on campus.

Other interests?
Phil loves to write music, play chess, watch movies, and spend time with his close friends and family. He volunteers for Ruffalo Noel Levitz’s “SUPER 20” college readiness program that serves underrepresented high school students.
