K8 is a visual artist, designer, and assistant professor of communications and digital media, teaching graphic and web design.

Professor K8’s research centers around biocentrism, the biofield, coherence, in-formation, and fine-tuning the mind-body through sound, wave frequency, and visualization. Continued academic interests include human-centered design and social practice using 3D/4D spaces, holographs, VR, gaming, biofeedback, Max/MSP/Jitter, microcontrollers, UI/UX, and immersive media.

Most notably, Prof. K8 worked with the late Amy Horwath on a project called “Chemo Pods,” which simulated immersive climate-controlled environments that focused on connecting a chemotherapy patient’s mind and body in order to promote healing. K8 continues to focus on ways to use immersive media in the health care industry to promote healing.

Prof. K8 was responsible for the video creation, editing, and projection components of “Set To Reset,” the beloved post-modern dance by Trisha Brown, with music by Laurie Anderson. “Set to Reset” was restaged for UWM’s Dance Department and part of the annual Winterdances event. The project was partially funded by a National Endowment for the Arts “Art Works” award.

Prof. K8 was part of the conceptual team that created the exhibits for the Discovery World Museum in Milwaukee. Specifically, she created the Rockwell Automation’s “Dream Machine,” Johnson Controls “Technojungle,” and the Reiman “Aquarium.”

Prior to Carthage, Prof. K8 taught at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Mount Mary University, and Whitefish Bay High School. She has 15 years of real-world experience in advertising and design firms in the Midwest. Noteworthy clients include Pepsi, Snap-On, Harley-Davidson, SC Johnson, Jim Beam, Miller Brewing Company, and Trek Bicycles. She also ran a freelance design agency called Three Dogs & Co.

Prof. K8 has a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in intermedia and a Master of Arts (MA) in digital media and design from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She also attended the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) is from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in visual communications. She also studied abroad and spent much of her senior year studying art in France, England, Italy, Germany, and Spain.
