Career goal

“I would love to work in the sports communication field.”

How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?

“I am close with a couple of professors, which really helps my success in school. I always have people rooting for me and in my corner wanting me to succeed.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class was Crisis Communication. Every day, another crisis would pop up in the news, and we would talk about it. It was an excellent way to learn how to adjust to a fast-moving problem.”

Campus involvement

“I play softball at Carthage (3rd base and catcher). I have been playing since my freshman year.”

Toughest class

“My toughest class so far has been Spanish. I struggled with learning the more advanced concepts.”

Internships or on-campus employment

“I have had two internships so far: sports communication at Carthage and a social media position in a company that runs baseball and softball tournaments. These internships will help me land a job after school since I now have experience.”

Opportunities at Carthage

“I was lucky enough to go on a J-Term study tour to California for a sports journalism class. I learned how to write pre-game and post-game reports, we met with a respected sports journalist, and we learned about the field. I learned a lot on that study tour.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is the beach behind the Oaks Residence Halls. I sit back there and look at the water or go sea glass hunting.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“8-year-old me would be very happy with how I am doing and proud that I went into a field that I am going to love.”

Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?

“Communication is very broad, so you can go many different ways after graduation. My advice is to get all of your homework done and participate in class.”

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because I could play softball, it is an ideal location, and the lake is beautiful.”
