Career goal
“My career goal is to have a fulfilling career in sales in which my work can help people in whatever way possible. Eventually, my goal would be to work in upper-level sales management to help lead others to success. Finally, my end career goal would be to purchase a professional soccer club and manage operations.”
How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?
“Carthage faculty have been a massive resource for me throughout my time here. I have always been someone to look for counsel or a second opinion. Whether it be a project, looking for an internship/job, or an idea for Carthage Business Book Club, there is always someone I know who I can contact for help. I truly believe that one of Carthage’s strengths is that there is a personal connection to faculty, I have never felt like just a number.”
Favorite class
“My favorite class so far at Carthage has been Personal Selling & Sales with Professor JJ Shields. Taking the class helped me discover my passion for sales. Prof. Shields’ real-world knowledge and experience in sales provided clear insight into the sales profession.”
Campus involvement
“I am on the men’s soccer team here at Carthage. I have made hundreds of memories and lifelong friends through the soccer program at Carthage. It has been an honor to represent Carthage through soccer all these years. Also, I am the co-founder and president of the Carthage Business Book Club. I founded the club with some of my closest friends. Our mission is simple: to create a community of learners and motivated students who want to gain knowledge on business-related topics. The highlight of our club has been traveling to Boston, Massachusetts, to attend the 2022 Aspire Conference!”
Internships or on-campus employment
“My first internship experience was with Vitality Dental Arts as a sales intern. I was responsible for conducting in-person business developmental calls across the entirety of the Chicagoland area. I made presentations to dentists and office managers to sell lab services such as crowns, bridges, dentures, and surgical hardware.
“My most recent internship was with Ortho Molecular Products as a sales intern. I worked alongside the inside sales department conducting cold calls with various medical providers, including chiropractors, medical doctors, functional medicine doctors, and many others. I also managed a reactivation campaign with a chiropractic channel responsible for a territory of four states. Both companies provided a unique, fun, and fantastic learning experience for which I will forever be grateful.”
Favorite spot on campus
“My favorite spot on campus is the waterfront behind The Oaks. Some of the sunsets on Lake Michigan are unbelievable.”
What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?
“I think he would most likely be thrilled with how I turned out. Ever since I was young, my parents emphasized how important a strong work ethic is. I think 8-year-old Patrick would be happy to see his hard work pay off.”
Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?
“I chose to double major in marketing and management my freshman year and never looked back. I am a believer that the majors pair together. Studying marketing allowed me to express my creative side, and management allowed me to fully understand my analytical side. My best advice would be to ask questions and form relationships with your professors.”
Why Carthage?
“I chose Carthage because I am able to continue my passion for playing highly competitive soccer and obtain two degrees in fields that I am interested in. Also, as a Chicagoland native, Carthage is a perfect distance away from home, so that if my family wants to come to see a game, or if I want to go home for a weekend, it’s very manageable.”
