Career goal
“After Carthage, I hope to further my education at graduate school to reach my end goal of being a therapist.”
How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?
“The Carthage faculty have always been understanding and helpful during hard times. Understanding professors made coming to class easier and allowed me to engage more.”
Favorite class
“My favorite class here at Carthage has been Abnormal Psychology. I’ve learned many different things about diagnosing and what it takes to be a therapist, and Professor O’Brien is an amazing teacher.”
Internships or on-campus employment
“I recently joined the club PPGen (Planned Parenthood Generation Action) here at Carthage. With everything that has happened this summer with abortion laws and reproductive health, it was nice to build a sense of community and advocate for our rights and our health together.”
Favorite moments and memories at Carthage
“Some of my favorite memories here have been BINGO nights with friends. We’re all extremely competitive and get very invested in BINGO, but we still have fun even if we don’t win anything.”
Favorite spot on campus
“My favorite spot on campus is the Campbell Student Union. Every J-Term, my friends and I would play pool and hang out in the student union for hours on end.”
Biggest surprise so far
“The biggest surprise so far has been the fun things I get to do in some of my classes. Each class has had an interesting experience and something unique to it that has made it fun.”
What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?
“Well, when I was 8 years old I thought I was going to be famous, so I’m definitely on a different career path. I think 8-year-old me would be confused but also really excited.”
Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?
“The psychology major here is immersive and full of various psychologies to learn from. Everyone in the major finds their passion within it and ends up excelling. My advice for students considering the major is not to be afraid to ask for help and to go to the professors, and they will always be open to helping and will do their best to be understanding.”
Why Carthage?
“I chose Carthage because I felt a lot more confident in knowing I’d make a connection with my professors because of how much smaller the classes are. It doesn’t hurt that the lake is beautiful too.”
