Health Care in India: Traditional and Nontraditional Healing — Full
Applications for this study tour are closed.
In this course, we will examine health care in India with a focus on class, gender, environment, and caste, among other topics, in highly populated urban centers. Additionally, we will study hospice care and unique end-of-life ceremonies that suffuse a culture where many ascribe to the concept of reincarnation. Studying these topics in a developing country, under the impact of globalization, will imbue a greater holistic perspective to Carthage students who plan careers in health care. We will study how particular groups and communities have reacted and adapted to specific challenges unique to India.
This study tour fulfills the following general education requirements: GH and ITL.
