Career goal

“I’m not exactly sure what career I would like, but I hope to find a career where I’m happy and can use my knowledge to better communities and the world.”

How have Carthage faculty had an impact on your life or Carthage career?

“Career Specialist Sarah Gorke is amazing. Anytime I need to chat or help to make a decision, she is my go-to. I am so glad we met and I advise anyone to have a chat with her.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class was Intellectual Foundations. I withdrew from my first course because I didn’t feel a connection between my teacher and me, nor the class. My new professor made me look at Greek mythology and intellects very differently, and I used the information and books in other classes as well. It was an amazing experience to see the outcome I got from a different professor.”

Campus involvement

“I was invited to Alpha Lambda Delta, and I accepted my invitation. Next year I am looking forward to joining more sororities and the Black Student Union.”

Scholarships

“I received the Mary Lou Mahone scholarship. It has been great having no problems with my financial aid at school, considering I’m the first to be at college.”

Biggest surprise so far

“How amazing the help has been! Any problems I have I can call Carthage or my advisor and they help me.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“She’d be happy and waiting for me to reach my full potential as usual. I’ve always loved helping others and learning about people.”

Why should other students consider your major? What advice do you have for them?

Sociology is amazing and I’ve learned so much information that connects to my other courses that has been useful. I’m learning about our world and how everyone can be equal with equity. It’s been an amazing freshman year!”

Why Carthage?

“I chose Carthage because my high school principal went to Carthage. I’ve learned so much from him and he changed my whole perspective on college and school. He’s the reason I love education!”
