    Professor Michael Phegley joined the Carthage faculty in 2003 after serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. He continues to practice law and has over 35 years of litigation experience representing clients in family, criminal, and employment law matters. He is a certified mediator and previously served on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee for the State Bar of Wisconsin.

    He has been the municipal judge for the Village of Mount Pleasant since 2010 and also serves as a judicial court commissioner for Racine County. He routinely lectures at the Wisconsin Municipal Judges’ Association Continuing Education Conferences on topics such as trial procedure, courtroom policy, evidence, and impaired driving.

    Prof. Phegley is the director of the Mock Trial Program and the faculty advisor for the Mock Trial Team and the co-advisor for the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity. He teaches Legal Environment of Business, Accounting Law, and Mock Trial. In 2016, he led the Carthage Mock Trial Team to the National Championship Series in Greenville, SC. The 2016 team finished the season ranked 43rd out of more than 700 teams nationwide. He also led the 2010, 2012, 2016, 2019, and 2020 teams to the Opening Round Championship Series. The 2012 team won the Chicago regional with a 7-1 record.

    He is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin and a member and past president of the Racine County Bar Association. He is involved with many community service organizations and currently serves on the board of directors for Racine Youth Sports. He previously served as the president of the board of directors for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Alumni Association and as the co-chair of the board of directors for St. Catherine’s High School in Racine.

    He earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Marquette University and a B.S. in labor and industrial relations from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
