Congratulations to this week’s #WSGCStudentSpotlight, Scott Chang! Scott is a recipient of the 2022-2023 WSGC Undergraduate Scholarship.
Scott is a student University of Wisconsin-Madison pursuing a double major in Biology and Spanish. His love for both medicine and space has guided his career goal of becoming an aerospace physician. Scott attributes his growing passion for space to his experience as an undergraduate researcher at the Kaçar Laboratory, whose research focuses on life’s origins and early evolution. As part of the Nitrogenase team, Scott has been studying the mysteries of the three- billion-year-old enzyme ‘nitrogenase’ that has been instrumental to the development of life. He was able to build on this previous research by conducting a project that investigates the evolution of nitrogenase throughout its storied past. Scott’s research will shed light on the history of this essential enzyme and provide new insights for improving current nitrogen sources and nitrogenase-bioengineering.
Congratulations, Scott, and best of luck in your future!
