Congratulations to this week’s #WSGCStudentSpotlight, Sam Jaeger! Sam is going into his second year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a major in aerospace engineering, for which Sam has received an Undergraduate Scholarship award.

Sam’s interest in aerospace engineering began in fifth grade, when he would read book after book about airplanes, enchanted by their mechanics. By middle school, Sam had read about every airplane book in his local library, gone to airshows and aerospace museums across the country, and received a Student Experimental Aircraft Association Membership. He soon began to make model rockets and was offered a spot on his middle school’s rocket team where their team built and launched a high powered rocket. This is when Sam’s interests became a goal, to become an aerospace engineer.

At his high school, Sam created a new rocket team, leading it throughout his time there, focused on his career goals. Currently, Sam is studying engineering mechanics and astronautics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Last year, he was able to take flight lessons and became a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), building a liquid powered rocket that will attempt to reach the edge of space.
