Monica Rasch
Senior
University of Wisconsin - Whitewater
Major: Geology
Minor: Environmental Studies

Monica Rasch is the recipient of an Undergraduate Research Fellowship and has been selected for this week’s #WSGCStudentSpotlight! Monica is a senior at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater studying Geology, Geography, and Environmental Studies.

Last summer, Monica had an internship with the Milwaukee Public Museum where she worked on digitizing Ordovician fauna fossils and photographing specimens. Recently, she was able to travel to Utah to do her own field work. This summer, Monica was selected as a 2018-2019 Undergraduate Research award recipient for her project, “Oyster Mass Occurrences (OMOs) in the Lower Cretaceous Walnut Formation, Key Valley Marl, and Upper Marl Members.” Monica is now following her passion for geology and paleontology by researching Cretaceous-period oysters in Central Texas.

Through her research, Monica hopes to gain a better understanding of the ancient environments in which these organisms once lived in order to more accurately predict the environmental conditions of their success and failure.

Congratulations Monica, and keep up the great work!
